Professor | Career Counselor | Creator, Her Career Doctor | Committed to Taking Up Space

St. Louis, Missouri

Today's episode features Dr. Tega Edwin, university professor, career counselor, and creator of Her Career Doctor, where she helps women do the self work and research necessary to access a fulfilling career.

Tega holds her B.S. in Biology (with a minor in Psychology), her M.S. in Counseling, and her Ph.D in Counselor Education and Supervision. Given that this is her area of research, Tega’s perspective on how we approach our careers as a society and the added complexity of being a black woman doing so was phenomenal and full of impactful and helpful insights.

We talk about everything from doing the internal work to find a career that aligns with your values and the role of our current educational system in helping us, from a very young age, make decisions about our careers. We also discuss the role of mental health for black women dealing with challenging work environments, and some of the challenges she has faced as a black woman in academia.

This is definitely an episode that should spur some self reflection on if you’ve done the work to find the career of your dreams. I’d also encourage you to grab some of your closest friends, listen to this one together (maybe with some wine!), and have some real dialogue about the topics Tega and I explore in this episode.
